Scanz is a multi-discipline supply company and manufacturers agent, specialising in technology and equipment for the food industry.
It’s primary focus is within three market segments, namely fish (including aquaculture), meat and the dairy industry. High Pressure Processing takes Scanz into other areas, as does a recent involvement in industrial waste water treatment. Scanz provides solutions to suit all phases of the production process.
Representation is Australasian wide, particularly in fish farming. This can also extend to projects in South East Asia. The primary selling is undertaken by Tony Rumbold, supported by two contract engineers and approved service agents. Tony has been in the food industry since 1972 so has a large network of contacts and clients. Scanz maintains a database for industry newsletters covering some 500 companies.
The Process
Most of the international suppliers are longstanding connections supported in a number of cases by formal distribution agreements. Aside from considering the 80:20 rule, new enquiries are generated from email newsletters, trade fairs and cold calling. Keeping up to date via international publications and trade fairs is also very important.
Sales are transacted either as a commission agent or as the basic importer. To expedite this Scanz maintains customs brokers throughout Australasia and maintains storage facilities in both countries. All administration is driven out of the Auckland office, with a seperate company maintained in Australia.
Scanz has good expertise in managing large scale projects supported by local consulting engineers and its overseas principals.
